Ellery Agency
Hire with Ellery

Hiring for a private home.

From first conversation to placement — and after.

I · The Conversation

It begins with the household, not a form.

Every engagement starts with a conversation: the household, the role, the working style, and the reason for the hire. Some families arrive with a precise description. Others arrive with a problem to solve. Both are good starting points.

Every inquiry is answered personally and held in confidence.

Hiring for the first time? Ellery can help define the role and responsibilities, compensation, schedule and working arrangement, screening and reference expectations, and the practical onboarding plan — before any search is opened.

Before a search begins

Scope · fees · timing · replacement commitment · screening requirements

Agreed in writing before Ellery begins the search.

The Search Can Begin Here

You do not need the perfect title before speaking with us.

Tell us what is not working, what responsibility needs to move off the principal, and what the home needs to feel easier. Ellery can help define whether the answer is a House Manager, Executive Housekeeper, Nanny, Family Assistant, Private Chef, Chauffeur, Butler, or another household brief.

II · The Brief

A precise search begins with a precise brief.

Before any search, Ellery establishes how the home actually operates: who lives there, who already works within it, what the principal expects, and where the new role must carry responsibility.

The brief is what candidates are measured against. The clearer it is, the fewer introductions a household needs to meet the right person.

III · The Engagement

Terms in writing before any search begins.

The engagement letter records the agreed scope, fee structure, timing expectations, screening requirements, and any replacement commitment. Search fees are paid by the client. Professionals never pay Ellery.

Searches are limited so each receives the founder’s attention, and every engagement is accepted and overseen personally.

IV · The Search

Verified before introduced.

Candidates are identified through direct sourcing, professional referrals, existing relationships, and targeted outreach — then interviewed directly by Ellery against the brief.

Identity is confirmed. Employment history and professional references are checked at the source. Additional screening is matched to the role and jurisdiction.

V · Introductions

People worth meeting, not a stack of résumés.

Introductions are selective and deliberate. Each candidate presented has already been interviewed and verified, with references Ellery can speak to directly. Interviews and trials are arranged around the household’s schedule and privacy.

For the household, the search should create less work — not more.

VI · After Placement

Placement is not the end of the relationship.

Ellery remains available as the professional settles into the household, expectations become practical, and questions arise on either side. Any replacement commitment is defined in the written engagement.

Ellery Care provides 24/7 human support by phone and chat, throughout the engagement and after placement.
