How Ellery verifies.
Verification begins before an introduction.
A résumé is a starting point. Ellery checks the record behind it directly so that a client can understand not only what a candidate says they have done, but what can actually be established at the source.
Identity
Government-issued identity is reviewed and matched to the candidate. Where a search calls for additional documentation, the scope is handled according to the role, jurisdiction, and applicable law.
Employment history
Prior employment is checked directly with former employers or appropriate representatives. Ellery seeks to confirm the relationship, dates, role, and responsibilities rather than relying only on a résumé entry or a contact number supplied without context.
Professional references
References are checked through live conversation where possible. Before relying on a reference, Ellery authenticates who the person is and how they know the candidate. Questions are specific to the work: responsibilities, judgment, discretion, independence, communication, reason for leaving, and whether the person would be rehired.
Criminal background screening
For searches that require it, Ellery arranges criminal background screening through appropriate third-party screening providers, subject to candidate authorization and applicable law. The available scope varies by jurisdiction.
Driving records
When driving is a material part of the role, motor-vehicle records are checked as part of the search, subject to authorization and applicable law.
Education and professional credentials
Education, licenses, certifications, or other professional credentials are verified when they are material to the role.
International candidates and overseas history
For candidates with international employment histories, Ellery pursues prior employers and references at the source and reviews identity and work-authorization documentation as applicable. Availability and the form of records vary by country, so the client is told when a source cannot be verified to the same standard.
Confidentiality
Verification requires sensitive information from both sides of a search. Household details are shared only to the extent needed for the process, and candidate information, screening information, and reference conversations are handled in accordance with the purpose of the search and applicable law. See Privacy & Confidentiality.
Verified does not mean identical screening for every role. A House Manager, private driver, nanny, Estate Manager, and family-office operator can require different diligence. Ellery defines the verification scope around the actual responsibilities of the appointment.
